Why online training is not a trend but the new normal

COVID forced online training into the market, but the trend didn't disappear afterwards. On the contrary — the global online fitness market was worth $25 billion in 2024 and is growing. For Serbian trainers, this means a concrete opportunity: a client in the diaspora, in Belgrade who can't come in person, or someone wanting a cheaper alternative to 1:1 in the gym. A trainer with 20 in-gym clients and 10 online has dramatically better income per hour of work — online clients don't consume your physical presence.

What you can sell: (1) 1:1 online training in real time — Zoom or Google Meet, 45 to 60 minutes, you can charge €30 to €60 per session depending on experience and market. (2) Personalised training plan — write it once, send a PDF or app access, price €50 to €150 for 4 to 8 weeks. (3) Group online training — 5 to 15 clients simultaneously, lower price per person but higher total income. (4) Courses and programmes — 'Beginner programme 12 weeks' that you create once and sell continuously.

What you can sell online — from 1:1 training to passive income

Platforms in Serbia: for communication, Zoom or Google Meet. For programme delivery: TrueCoach, PT Distinction or Notion (free, but less polished). For payment: PayPal is most widespread, but fees are high. Stripe doesn't work directly for Serbian entrepreneurs but can work through Paddle or Lemon Squeezy as intermediaries. For course sales: Teachable or Gumroad. For scheduling: Calendly's free plan is sufficient for beginners.

Charging for online training in Serbia has a legal aspect: you must have a registered company or sole trader status to legally charge. A contract for online training (simple PDF) protects you and the client — define the number of sessions, timing, cancellation policy. Tax: as a lump-sum sole trader you pay a fixed amount regardless of income up to a certain threshold — consult an accountant before you start earning seriously.

Which platforms to use for online training in Serbia

Without an existing audience, the first 10 online clients come from: existing gym clients who want flexibility, referrals from satisfied clients, content on Instagram or TikTok demonstrating knowledge and results, and — what trainers often ignore — LinkedIn which is especially good for corporate wellness programmes. Offer the first clients a trial month at a lower price in exchange for a testimonial and results photos. Feather Studio builds websites for personal trainers with booking and payment integration.
