Why phone calls are no longer enough for booking in 2026

Clients are increasingly reluctant to call to book — especially the younger generation. Research shows that 67% of beauty salon clients prefer online booking over the phone, and 40% of that happens outside salon opening hours. Every time someone can't reach you by phone (you're busy, working with a client, it's the weekend) — you've lost a potential client. An online booking system solves this and has a benefit for you: automatic reminders reduce 'no-shows' by an average of 30 to 40%.

Fresha is currently the most popular option for salons in Serbia, and understandably — it's free for salons (they charge clients a processing fee on online payments). The interface is clear, the mobile app solid, Google calendar integration exists. Booksy is paid (from €29 per month) but has a larger marketplace — users search Booksy and find the salon even without prior knowledge of it. Treatwell dominates in western Europe, still less widespread in Serbia. For a salon just starting out — Fresha is the answer.

Custom booking directly on your own website makes sense when you don't want to pay commission on anything, when you need a specific flow that platforms don't support, or when you're building a brand that doesn't want to look like a generic salon. Technically: Calendly or Cal.com for simple slots, Acuity Scheduling for more complex needs, or custom development for a specific requirement. Disadvantage: no marketplace effect — clients don't find you through the platform.

Google Business Profile has direct integration with some booking platforms — a 'Book' button appears directly in Google search and on Google Maps. Both Fresha and Booksy are integrated. This means a client who finds your salon on Google can book without ever visiting your website. This dramatically reduces friction and increases conversion.

Custom booking on your own website — when it makes sense

What clients expect: mobile-friendly interface (80% of bookings happen on the phone), real-time availability view, email or SMS confirmation, option to cancel online. The bonus that sets you apart: option to choose a specific hairdresser, not just the salon. Feather Studio integrates booking systems into hair salon and beauty studio websites.
